The Frieze

Description

This elaborate window flower box shines in the daylight. The white monochrome flowers dance across the dark background, popping forward. I did an artist rubbing from a carved Mexican magazine holder I own. I have always loved the elaborately carved word and knew it far exceeded my artistic patience, so I did an artist rubbing. This magical effect of laying tracing paper over the object and rubbing a crayon over it is a perfect way to capture a carving.

The Parthenon Frieze, in Greece, is a marble sculpture that adorns the upper part of the Parthenon. Sculpted between c. 443 and 438 BC., tremendous skill and care are evident in this tremendous relief.
